Indie Weekend: Unjoy by Len Lantz #Christianpsychiatry

I’ve extended Indie Weekend into Monday since it’s a day off for many of us this week. Indie Weekend is my effort to highlight Indie and Self-Published books and help the authors with the daunting task of marketing. Below is my review of Unjoy by Len Lantz. Unjoy is a book for Christians dealing with depression and the stigma sometimes surrounding it. Check it out below.

You can become fully free from depression.

Depression is real. It’s not your fault if you have it, but it is your responsibility to do something effective about it. Although depression is often stigmatized or ignored, Christians commonly experience it.

While it can sometimes feel like there are no solutions and that you can never escape depression, that isn’t true. In this easy-to-read book, Dr. Len Lantz addresses aspects of faith and mood while providing real answers about what works for depression and why.

In unJoy, Dr. Lantz shares engaging stories, common-sense reasoning, research-proven treatments, entertaining cartoons, and biblical encouragement for Christians struggling with “unJoy” and for their loved ones. There is hope and help for depression!

There are seven million Christians with Depression, and that’s just in America. In this book, Len Lantz, a psychiatrist and Christian, provides resources for Christians to break the stigma of seeking out help for mental health issues.

This is a helpful, well-thought-out resource that not only explains to Christians why medication and counseling are sometimes necessary, but also provides tools for anyone to deal with depression. There is also a section for family members and friends who have loved ones who are suffering from mental illness.

Lantz provides both medical and spiritual advice in this book, which intersperses scripture with medical facts. He reminds us that God sends help in a lot of ways, including doctors and medication.

The author warns us upfront that the illustrations are bad, and they are so bad that they are actually endearing and effective.

I received a free copy of this book. My review is voluntary and the opinions expressed are my own.

Dr. Len Lantz is a partner at Big Sky Psychiatry in Helena, Montana and has over 20 years of experience in psychiatric medicine, with specializations and board certifications in adult and pediatric psychiatry. Self-Published Spotlight: The Essential Social Skills Handbook for Teens by Richard Meadows

Self-published Spotlight is my effort to help indie authors promote their books. Below we have an important book that helps teens who are struggling with anxiety and social skills.

Have you been missing out on getting what you want most in life because you lack confidence or are shy? Do you want to have the confidence to do anything you want and not care about what others think of you? Then keep reading….

When I was a shy overweight kid who lacked confidence:

I was always the last person to be picked for the soccer team.

I was afraid of looking like an idiot for asking a question out loud in front of everyone in class.

I thought I could never become the person I dreamt of becoming: the confident and badass person who doesn’t care about what other people think.

I stood in a corner at the party afraid to talk to the girl that I liked.

If you can relate to what I’m talking about and you would like to transform yourself then this book is a must-read for you….

These are just some of the problems I faced as a teen. I made it my mission to figure out what was making me anxious and what was holding me back from doing all the things I wanted to do. I‘ve now come a long way since and I want to help you.

In this handbook, you’ll discover:

  • How to communicate and get the message across even when you feel like no one will understand you.
  • Exercises used even by the U.S. Navy Seals unit uses to remain calm under pressure.
  • The one simple word fix to your sentences that will take your communication to the next level and grasp anyone’s attention.
  • How to work with your parents even if you feel like they don’t get you at all or can’t help.
  • Absolutely everything you need to know to achieve every single goal and ambition you have.
  • Bonus templates for parents and teens to help with goal setting, planning, and mindset transformation.

Attention Parents! There’s also an addendum with special advice and tips for you to help the teens in your life develop stronger social skills and overcome anxiety.

am eternally grateful to my parents as they played an instrumental role in my personal and social growth. I want to share with you everything my parents, counselors and mentors did right and a few tweaks and improvements that in retrospect would have helped me gain confidence faster.

I guarantee you that this book will work for you because:

  • I’m not going to bore you with facts. I’ll tell you about the challenges and problems I faced, how I overcame them and how you can too.
  • If you’ve tried all other self-help books and have not found them useful, this book will work for you because this is not a self-help book, it is a book to help you take specific action using templates to start today and get closer to your goal today.
  • Even if you don’t like to read books or read in general, this book will work for you because this book is easy to read and relatable.
  • Even if you’ve tried all the mainstream advice, this book will work for you because the advice is relevant for the 2020s.

Blog Tour and Book Review: The Addiction Manifesto #Addiction #Recovery

2020 International Book Awards Finalist for Health: Addiction & Recovery

“Some people won’t believe in you, and that’s ok, this journey isn’t about them. It’s about you.”

The Addiction Manifesto has been uniquely designed to provide you with a new perspective on recovery and will show you that anything is possible.

In this deeply personal book, JR Weaver has crafted a raw insight into his life and how he’s been affected by substance abuse over the past 20 years. He details his recovery process and how he’s dealt with loss.

With this book he wishes to help people on their journey to recovery. His realistic approach details his journey to try to have a normal life again.

If you’re going through addiction recovery or want to help someone who is… This book allows you to fain a greater understanding of substance abuse and its many challenges.

In this excellent book, the author describes his own battle with addiction and how he hit bottom and rose back up again. He describes addiction itself and how it will rob you of everything dear in life, and then try to take your life as well. He outlines his process to recovery in order to help others that struggle with with this as well. The process is well explained and easy to understand. Most importantly, he talks of the continuing battle even after recovery. There are also true stories from others who have fought this fight and found their lives again.

The stories from the author and many others are heartbreaking, and tell of how addiction robbed them of everything and everyone they held dear, and how they finally broke the chain and began to live again. For anyone who struggles with addiction or knows someone who does, this will be a helpful and poignant read. This is also an important book for anyone who just wants to better understand those who have struggled with this.

I received a free copy of this book via Zooloo’s Book Tours. My review is voluntary.

JR Weaver lives in Charleston, South Carolina. He is a veteran of the United States Army and now specializes in helping other veterans adapt and adjust to the civilian world while dealing with issues such as PTSD, depression, and substance abuse. Jerry was like many veterans, lost and confused after finishing his time in uniform. His life quickly spiraled out of control, and he was at the breaking point. It was during his recovery and regrowth period where Jerry discovered the healing power of writing. He began writing down his thoughts and processing feelings and has gone on to become a staunch advocate for veteran’s addiction and recovery.

Self-Published Saturday/How to Stop Binge Eating and Learn to Love Food Again

Self-Published Saturday (SPS) continues on a Sunday because I wasn’t available yesterday. Nothing will ever stop SPS, not even if I miss Saturday completely! Self-Published Saturday (SPS) is my effort to help self-published and indie authors with the heavy task of marketing their books. Self-published authors have to do it all, from cover design to marketing and more. This is my effort to take a bit of that load and help promote their books on a Saturday. This week, Saturday got away from me because life happens, but it lives on. The spirit of SPS is the same, Saturday or Sunday. Please share these books on your social media, so all of your followers can see these great books as well. Below is a review of an important self-help book, How to Stop Binge Eating and Learn to Love Food Again.

This is a wonderful book for those who have a problem with overeating or who need to eat healthier. I loved the approach by this book, which is not a diet at all. It teaches new practices that will help you develop healthy lifelong eating habits, which in turn should help you lose weight. If you, like me, have tried all the diets without lasting success, read this book!

One of the things I loved the most about this approach is that it doesn’t eliminate any food group. Instead, it talks of eating a majority of healthy, unprocessed foods and learning to limit the sweets and simple carbs without giving them up completely. You learn about how sweets and simple carbs affect the body, and you are given the information to succeed, but not deprived of any foods.

I would recommend this book to anyone, like me, who has tried every single diet without success. This approach takes away the diet and focuses on you.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksirens. My review is voluntary.

*Kindle Unlimited Subscribers can read the book for free.

*If you buy the book(s), please leave reviews on Amazon and Goodreads, as well as anywhere else you review books.  Some people feel very daunted by writing a review. Don’t worry. Just a couple of lines about how the book made you feel will make the author’s day and help the book succeed. The more reviews a book has, the more Amazon will promote it.

Self-Published Saturday – May 1, 2021 (Weekly Series)

Below are three books from some great self-published authors for my new weekly feature, Self-Published Saturday. This is a chance for you to meet some wonderful authors and check out their work. Self-published authors need your support. If you decide to buy any of these books today, please be sure and leave a review on Amazon. Reviews are so important to self-published authors.

The first two books I want to highlight today are self-published books that I’ve reviewed before. I will introduce you to the author and provide links to buy the book. There will also be a link to my previous review. The third self-published book is my latest review.

My first book to highlight is Once Upon a Rhyme by Antony L. Saragas.

Once upon a rhyme is a heartfelt story based on true events. Dylan or “Oskie” has experienced great loss even prior to the recent passing of his father, Hollis, who was also his long-time baseball coach.  This loss has made him hesitate to move forward, especially in love.  While cleaning out his father’s belongings, Oskie finds a book of poems written by his father.  As he begins to read them, memories come flooding back and he truly sees the importance of his father’s words.

Buy the book on Amazon.

My full review of Once Upon A Rhyme is here.

My second book to highlight is The Siege of An Loc by Hien T. Nguyen.

The Siege of An Loc is the story of the defense of An Loc in 1972 during the Vietnam War. It is also a love story between a South Vietnamese soldier, Trung, and Ly, a student, daughter of a rubber plantation owner. As Trung struggles to defend his country, he finds himself falling for the beautiful Ly, but do they have a chance for happiness in the midst of war? We also see the evil of communism especially personified in one of the characters, and two brothers are reunited, one from North Vietnam and one from South Vietnam.

Nguyễn Trọng Hiền is originally from Vietnam. In the United States, he is known as Hien Nguyen, or Hien T. Nguyen.  He also uses the name Neihtn online. Neihtn is his Vietnamese first name (Hien)  and initials, spelled backward. Why backward? One reason is to indicate that he now lives on the opposite side of the world from where he was born and spent over two decades of his life.

Hein wrote his first book,  Village Teacher at night and on weekends over four years while he worked a full-time job. He is now retired and spends his time writing and taking photographs of birds, wildlife, flowers and landscapes. He posts the photos on his blog,  Village Teacher.  He published his second novel, The Siege of An Loc, in 2020

The Siege of An Loc can be borrowed for free on Amazon by Kindle Unlimited Subscribers, or purchased outright.

My Third book to highlight is 7 Attitudes of the Helping Heart

My third self-published book to highlight today is also a new review for me. It is a nonfiction book called 7 Attitudes of the Helping Heart by John Christopher Frame.

I don’t know if all of you have seen extreme poverty or not, but it is eye-opening to behold. I grew up in the suburbs of Cincinnati, and although I’ve seen people struggling, I did not really see abject poverty until my husband was stationed with the Air Force in the country of Panama. There I saw crowds of people living on the streets, sleeping on the ground by night and washing car windows and begging in the streets by day. I was going to college then and passed them every day on my way to school. It really opened my heart to the struggling of others.

7 Attitudes of the Helping Heart introduces you to people in circumstances of poverty and tells you their stories. It also offers guidance on developing your own “helping heart.” The author, John Christopher Frame, goes on to explore the emotions and attitudes most needed by Christians when helping the poor. He takes a closer look at hope, compassion, empathy, gratitude, humility, generosity, and holiness and provides real-life anecdotes from people in situations of need.

This book is well written and will help anyone interested in improving not just charitable giving, but their everyday relationships with others .

John Christopher Frame is an author and a faculty member at an online university. He has lived internationally and holds a PhD from the University of Oxford. Publishers Weekly stated his first book, Homeless at Harvard: Finding Faith and Friendship on the Streets of Harvard Square, was “touching, and well worth the read…” John’s passion is combining his interests in theology and social concerns to help Christians become more aware of global issues so they can better live out their faith. He loves traveling on the cheap, visiting outdoor markets, balcony gardening, and working in quirky cafés in his neighborhood. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, whom he met while buying a carpet at a souvenir shop in Istanbul, Turkey. Connect with him at

7 Attitudes of the Helping Heart can be purchased on Kindle for only 99 cents!

Just a reminder to be sure and leave a review if you choose to purchase any of these three amazing self-published books.
