The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book-related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog. See the latest question below:

I am not necessarily a collector of first editions, but I do collect signed books and I have looked for first editions in the past. I would categorize the question more as “able to afford” instead of hard to find. I saw a first edition of Robert Heinlein’s Starship Troopers selling for over $500. I can’t afford to spend that on a book right now or in the foreseeable future.
I do have signed first editions of several of Jodi Taylor’s books, both from when she was with a small press and after she signed with Headline. She actually sells signed books on her website and the new books usually come before the publication date, so I have several of those. She lives in the UK and hasn’t yet done a tour in the US. If she ever does, I’ll be there with my book to sign. Also, when an author sends me a book to review directly, I always ask them to sign it. To my author friends: Thank You!
One of the things I plan to do for fun after I retire is travel to lots of book signings by my favorite authors.

What about you: Do you collect first editions, signed books, or anything book related?
I have some signed books, but I wouldn’t say that I collect them.

My signed books are signed to me so they probably won’t have resale value but I love them.

I do enjoy finding signed copies of books that have been handed down from my grandmother.

I’m with you, exactly! I collect signed books but first editions I don’t even bother looking for because of the cost.

That’s lovely. When I do Blog Tours I always get excited if the book is signed! I have started to pre-order signed books as birthday/christmas presents because they are expensive!
Have a great weekend!

Now I’ve got to go home and see if any of our Heinleins are first editions! Not that we’d part with them. 🙂 Happy weekend!
My Friday book memes are here.

First editions don’t appeal to me, though older books with printed illustrations do. I’m more interested in the cover image than the print edition.

That’s such a cool signed book, Bonnie! I don’t collect signed books or first editions. In fact, I have very few physical books.

I do not collect books, even though I love to read them. I do not reread, so I stopped saving books after I read them.

That makes sense. I am just the opposite. I read some books over and over again.

I have some signed books I got from book con, however I’m not sure how many I have. Every now and then I find a signed book at a used book sale.
