Sunday Post and Sunday Salon: All the Fun of Fall

Happy Fall everyone! As I type this on Saturday, I just finished up my sauerkraut making, and I’m watching college football. Roll Tide! (Update: They did!) I love Fall so much, with harvest, Thanksgiving, and Christmas all rolled into a fun four months. (I consider August part of Fall because that’s when the garden harvest starts.) Next week is jam making. I’m starting with peach, peach jalapeno, and Christmas jam!

Reading

I finished up reading several books for The Historical Novel Society and now I’m reading a few Indie books. I have three books that are late on Netgalley, and I want to catch those up, so as usual I have way more books that I have time to read.

  1. You know how to make saurkraut?! That’s so interesting! I suppose someone has to make it, but I never thought about it before, I usually just pick up a jar at the supermarket.

  2. The jam sounds amazing! I can’t wait for my aunt to send us our usual yearly load of strawberry jam per my grandmother’s receipe, ahaha. Next time one of us visits they’ll come away with so many jars…

Hope you have a good week!

  3. What a wonderful way to kick off the fall season, Bonnie! Jams, fermented sauerkraut, and college football make for such a cozy autumn weekend. Making sauerkraut from an old family recipe sounds so special—I completely agreed with QuietIdea on how impressive that is, and Darlene’s memory of her mom’s fall batches was so sweet! Also, that Christmas jam combination of cranberries, strawberries, and blueberries sounds heavenly. I echoed Kat @ Forever Book Lover’s sentiment—a busy fall kitchen and a tall stack of books is the absolute best way to spend this time of year!

  4. It’s wonderful that you love the fall season, Bonnie. I do too. I’m sure looking forward to reading Hien’s Vietnam Short Stories. I’ve really liked everything I’ve read by him.

  5. Autumn is my favorite season. It’s usually too hot here to summon up much of the spirit in August, but the back-to-school vibe counts, so that works for me.

  6. Peach – jalapeño jam sounds amazing! Thanks for the reminder about Gail Meath. Looks like you have some intriguing reads in your future.
