This was a pretty normal week of working, reading, and posting when I can. I have neglected my Instagram lately so I need to get back to that.
Doug has been so busy working on the house lately that he hasn’t been able to spend much time on his other interests, including cars. He went to a car show with his Dodge Magnum this weekend and won second place for Magnums. Here’s his show photo. He painted the car himself and has done so many times in different designs.

I had my eye doctor appointment a few weeks ago. It did not go well. I’ve got the very early beginnings of macular degeneration, which caused my Dad to go blind in one eye. So I’m taking my eye caps and hoping it doesn’t get worse. I don’t have any of the symptoms yet so now is the time to stop it early. This week I picked up my new glasses. I noticed once again that as I get older, I am more interested in functionality than fashion. Because my former glasses were comfortable, I just ordered a pair in exactly the same style. No wandering around the store looking for something new and different.

BOOK HAUL

No new books this week as I’ve been too busy with the books I have.
That’s about all for the news this week. What is new with you?

I worked for a couple of years as an optician for a local optometrist. Praying for your eyes and for healing.
The doctor said on a scale of one to ten at the moment, I’m less than one. But since my Dad went blind I’m concerned.
that’s completely understandable. Glad to hear you are taking action now 🙂
I don’t blame you for being concerned, Bonnie. It’s lucky the eye doctor found it early.
Thanks! Hopefully I can keep it from getting worse.
You’re welcome!
Congratulations to Doug! It’s a beautiful car. Sorry to hear what your eye doctor said but catching it early along with the ever-improving medical options, hopefully you can keep it under control. And sticking with the same style glasses isn’t a sign of age…it’s a sign of making a smart choice…lol.
OK, Gail, I like that reasoning. Though I know I choose comfort first now more and more. 🙂
I clicked through to read your Things that make you not read a book since I missed my TTT hopping. I agree with many of your points. I noticed in more than a few TTT lists that shirtless men turned readers away. Me too…..I don’t even look at the title or consider it, and I agree about the primary romance genre. Not for me. One I would add is that I definitely don’t like books without quotation marks for dialog. Makes me crazy, and I can’t figure out why an author would choose that. What ‘statement’ are they trying to make? Glad you caught the eye condition so early and hope that makes all the difference! Have a terrific week.

Hi Terrie. I was also surprised at how many people responded that they do not like the “shirtless man” covers. I’m wondering how those covers were so popular, though one commenter said it was a trend that is going away. When I was younger I liked romances, but now they have to have a lot more going on to keep my attention. I’ve never read a book without quotation marks and don’t even think I could get through that.
I need to get my eyes checked, something I always seem to put off.
I hope you have a wonderful week!
Yep best to get them checked, especially if your parents or other relatives had problems.
Good luck with your eyes. I hope the early detection will help.
Have a great week!
Thanks Yvonne. I hope so too.
Congratulations Doug! Praying that your eyes remain less than one on the scale. You got the right attitude. And knowing early is always a good thing to make adjustments or take steps.
Thanks for the prayers Louise. Hopefully my eyes will not get any worse.
Fingers crossed for your eyes!!! Let’s hope these drops do miracles! Hugs.
Thank you Sophie!
I had forgotten how hot and tiring sitting in a huge parking lot baking in the sun can be. If there is anything scarier than taking a saw and cutting a giant hole in your car’s hood, I’m not sure what it is.
You did a great job!
Doug did a great job with the car. Congratulations to him! I am sorry to hear about the macular degeneration. My mom recently was diagnosed with beginning macular degeneration as well. I hope the caps help and your eyes do not get worse. You’ve reminded me though that I really need to schedule optometry appointments for both my daughter and me. I hope you have a great week, Bonnie!
You definitely need to get that appointment, especially if your Mom has it. Best wishes for healthy eyes!
Sorry to hear about the eye exam! I’ve noticed my vision changing too and I’m not getting any younger. I hope you don’t have any problems for years t ocome…
I love the car pics!
Thanks Greg for the good wishes. I am so proud of Doug and his talent for so many things.
Oh, I hope preventive medicine can help with the eye degeneration. At least you can take some steps.
I checked out your TTT list of things that you don’t want to read and it was hilarious! I agree with many of them, only I don’t mind books in present tense. Sometimes it seems forced, but if it goes with the content, often I don’t even notice.
Thanks for your good wishes regarding my eye trouble. There are a couple of writers out there who put their books in present tense and I didn’t even notice right away and I loved the books. Most of the time though it is jarring for me.
I think that goes to show that choosing the tense for a book should be a deliberate, well-considered choice by the author in service of the story.
Absolutely.
Sorry for so many posts today! Just a lot of good books to share, along with Sunday post.
Sorry to hear about your eye diagnosis! What are eye caps? Just wondering because my vision has gotten worse over the last few years as well. I have narrow angle glaucoma and recently had laser surgery to open up the angles a bit more as a preventative measure. Didn’t help my vision, though.
If you search I-caps, they are eye vitamins for macular degeneration. Supposed to help stop it from getting worse.
It’s good that you’re getting to vision problem early, I think. That’s sure a cool Dodge Magnum. 😎
My best to you and yours, Bonnie.
Thanks Tim. And thank you for sharing this on Twitter.
My pleasure, Bonnie. 😉
Yeah if I find something I like I wish I could just get the same with shoes, clothes, etc. I am all about function.
Anne – Books of My Heart
I’m very sorry to hear about your eyes, but thank goodness they caught it early, while there are things that you can do to slow it down or even stop it progressing for a while. As for sticking to the same glasses frames… if they work for you, and you like them, why not?! I have done that, too. Eventually the styles will change enough that your current frames won’t be available anymore (ask me how I know!) But until then, go for it.
Your husband did a great job on the car.
Wow he did a great job on the car! And congrats!!
I am a creature of habit – once I find something I like I tend to stick with it. Lol.
The car looks cool. that’s good you caught the eye issue early so hopefully you can keep it under control. I’m the same, I prefer comfort and functionality over anything else. Enjoy your books this week.
