This week’s question:
My answer: Romance is not my favorite genre. If I read a romance, there has to be a lot more going on, such as a mystery, or a historical setting with a lot of historical events included. If I do choose a romance, it is usually a historical romance or romantic comedy. I don’t have a favorite trope.
I love to read and write book reviews in my free time. I review advance review copies of books on Netgalley for various publishers. I am also a reviewer for Historical Novels Review Magazine, the magazine of the Historical Novel Society. I review books from publishers of all size, large to small. I have a special place in my heart for indie authors. I will sometimes post a little writing that I might dabble in occasionally. I also am lucky enough to live in the Smoky Mountains, so I'll be sharing photos of the beauty around me from time to time.

I don’t read romances. They’re too formulaic.

They really are.

I’m the same here. There has to be something else going on besides romance.

I did read romances when I was much younger, but now I need more of a plot.

Sounds like I prefer a similar type of romance – I like it as an element of a mystery or a historical.

Historical is my absolute favorite.

Like most people, I like romance as part of the plot, but not as the main course.

Yep. Just romance alone is kind of boring to me.

I read quite a bit of romance, but I don’t have a favorite trope. It’s all in the writing for me.

And your reviews are outstanding.

Romantic comedies are among my favorite contemporary romance. I don’t read a lot of romance, but I enjoy it on occasion. I especially like it mixed with mystery or urban fantasy.
I hope you have a great weekend!

Occasionally I will pick up a romantic comedy as well.

I really don’t read romance that often, but when I do I like the young adult genre. “Bullies to romance” or high school drama. Lol, I know, it sounds like an ole lady trying to go back in time, hmm… 🤣

🙂 But the important thing is that you enjoy it. Going back in time to high school makes me think of Back to the Future. Though Marty went to his parents’ high school, not his.

Since romance is my jam, there are very few tropes that I don’t like – give me a guaranteed HEA and I’m there…

There has to be a lot more than romance to make me pick up a book. I enjoy reading books centered around real-life issues, history, or culture. If they are peppered with love, it doesn’t hurt.

I don’t read a lot of romance, nor does the crime I read often have romance subplots. When I do read something with romance, I quite like a second chance or a friends to lovers

It depends on the story. I’ve read a few lately that I loved. Then there are the classics that never get pld.

So true about the classics.
