The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book-related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.
Have you ever switched reading genres? If so, why?
(submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)
ANSWER: I have never read or reviewed just one genre, as many of you know. I’ve had just about everything on this blog, from fiction to nonfiction.
However, my favorite genre is time travel, and in 2013 I discovered Jodi Taylor’s first book, Just One Damned Thing After Another, Book 1 of the Chronicles of St. Mary’s series. That’s when I became fascinated with Historical Fiction, because Ms. Taylor weaves multiple history lessons into all of her time travel books. So a time travel/historical fiction mashup is my favorite thing to read. When I started this blog in October 2020, however, I did not limit myself to just one genre, and I still don’t.
The genres I don’t like to read are horror, because it affects my dreams and politics, because it gives me a headache.

What about you? What’s your favorite genre or do you read many different genres?
My favorite genre to read is literary fiction (which can cover a ot of ground). I’ve also gotten back into reading poetry. When I need to read something light, I go with mysteries.

I love literary fiction as well. My favorites are your book Telling Sonny and Stacy D. Flood’s book, The Salt Fields, both of which also have an element of historical fiction.

I also love Time Travel and historical fiction. But I read a huge variety, except horror for the same reasons as you. I think it is good to expand your reading to a variety of genres.

My taste in reading changes. I’ve read books ranging from Tolstoy and Michener to Ken Follett. I really enjoyed Shakespeare. 🙂 Right now, I’m into westerns, written with a positive viewpoint regarding American Indians, since I’ve always respected the way of life of the natives of this country. I don’t like anything about politics.

Great answer! I don’t enjoy horror either and struggle with non-fiction, I tend to be a bit of a butterfly that moves between the same few genres.

I tend to stay in my favorite genres. I won’t read horror or erotica. Every once in a while, I’ll add a cozy mystery, a nonfiction book, or a historical one. But contemporary women’s fiction/romance is where I tend to stay.

I’m like you Bonnie, I am an eclectic reader and read a wide variety of genres. I also do not read horror, or Urban Fantasy. I read some nonfiction, but more memoirs/biographies than anything else.
