Thank you to That Artsy Reader Girl for hosting Top Ten Tuesday. The topic this week is “Best Books I Read in 2024.”

These are in no particular order, but one standout is Slow Noodles by Chantha Nguon. It is an absolutely haunting true story of how the author lost everything during the Pol Pot regime in Cambodia, but the memories of her mother’s recipes kept her going through starvation. It describes her struggles as a Cambodian refugee in Thailand, and how she used what she knew about food to survive. You won’t soon forget this sad but amazing story.
All of the above books were fantastic reads for me. If you click on the covers, you will find my review for each book on this blog, except for Find Me In The Stars and O Little Town of Bethlehem. The links for those two will take you to my review on The Historical Novel Society website.
Question of the Day: What books stood out for you this year?

I too have A Perilous Premiere on my 10 ten list. Bravo again Gail!!👏👏
I didn’t include poetry but Louise’s Your Words collection is amazing!
Bonnie is right…it is my (current) favorite! x
☺️🤗Ahhh thank you Gail!! xox
Thank you, Louise!!! xo
That Slow Noodles sure sounds interesting to me, Bonnie.
It is so, so good, and some parts are super sad, because they are true.
The Vixen Amber Holloway by Carol LaHines is the standout novel from this past year.
Liz, yours and Louise’s poetry books were wonderful!! Happy New Year!! ❤️
Yes, they both were, and both got 5 stars from me.
Thank you very much, Gail! Happy New Year!!
I have yet to read yours, something wonderful to look forward to in 2025. 😊
Thanks, Louise! I hope you enjoy it.
I have to check out The Vixen Amber Holloway. I’ve reviewed at least one book by Carol LaHines and enjoyed it.
I’m so glad that Smallhope and Pennyroyal are on this list! 😀
Absolutely. I loved this one. Of course I love all of Jodi’s books.
Thank you so much for including my books, Bonnie!! I’m still striving for that dang bestseller list:), but my books wouldn’t be where they are without you. Happy New Year!!
Your books are amazing, both the cozy mysteries, and your traditional historical fiction like Agustina De Aragon.
Oh, and the Slow Noodles books sounds intriguing! My brother-in-law, his wife, and two children live in Thailand and their pictures are breathtaking! It sounds heartbreaking, but worth reading.
I listened to the audiobook and it was heartbreaking but also inspiring.
Interesting choices–I always love these posts every year. I really like the cover on The Devil and Mrs. Davenport!
This is the second time I’ve seen A PERILOUS PREMIERE mentioned today. I love historical mysteries, so I’m going to take a closer look at that one. Thanks for the rec!
Happy TTT!

I hope you enjoy it! I certainly did.
I haven’t read any of these, but I’ve started reading Jodi Taylor lately, so hopefully I’ll get to that one eventually!
Here’s my list: https://franlaniado.wordpress.com/2024/12/31/top-ten-tuesday-best-of-2024/
Are you reading The Chronicles of St. Mary’s series, The Time Police series, or one of her other books?
The Chronicles of St. Mary’s at the moment. And I’m only a few books in, but I’m really enjoying them, so I’d like to read more at some point. She’s got pretty big backlist! Any recommendations?
I still haven’t read a Gail Meath book, but have bought a couple along the way. Great list Bonnie. I just added your favourite to my TBR shelf for the nonfiction challenge. Happy New Year.
That’s great. I never thought I’d say a book with recipes is heartbreaking, but it is. Amazing book.
I love the covers of these books. A couple of them look like they’d be right up my alley. I’m going to look them up.
That’s great to hear.
I’m glad you found so many good books. I hope 2025 is a great reading year for you!
My favorites for 2024 were Charity’s Fire by Craig Matthews and The Lawman: Broken People by William Alban (whose new book in the series, Event Horizon, just came out). I also especially enjoyed Once Upon a Wardrobe by Patti Callahan, which I featured on my website this week!
I’ve read Once Upon A Wardrobe. Very good
