Thanks to The Caffeinated Book Reviewer for hosting Sunday Post.
It’s been all about the paperwork this week as I was getting all the documents together for tourist passports for Doug and myself. No matter how much I tried to get everything ready before the appointment at the post office, we were still scrambling around at the last minute and were very late for our appointment. Thankfully, the lady was really nice and worked us into the schedule. Now I have to concentrate on the taxes!
I’m busy reviewing books for Historical Novels Review, the magazine of The Historical Novel Society, and I’m temporarily filling in as Indies Editor for them this summer, so that’s exciting!
I got a warning from Amazon today that one of my reviews is outside of their guidelines, but they didn’t say which review or which guidelines! Apparently, I now have my first warning, but I have no idea what I did, so how do I know I’m not going to repeat it?
LAST WEEK turned out to be a quiet one. I participated in Top Ten Tuesday and did an Indie Weekend post for From Meidelach to Matriarchs by Mirta Ines Trupp. Today I’m also going to post a review of Sisters of Fortune.
NEXT WEEK: I’ll be catching up! I have a lot of books to review. I’m reviewing When Light Breaks Through by Brenda Murphy and A Child For Sale by Pam Howes. I hope to review The Berlin Letters by Katherine Reay and The Ark and the Dove by Jill Eileen Smith. I may have time to put up some other reviews or spotlights later in the week.
BOOK HAUL

Shades of Mercy is Book 2 in the Porter Beck series, which I really enjoyed.
The Great Divide and A Midnight Puzzle were ebooks I already had, but now I’ve gotten the audiobooks.
Interpretations of Love is about 11 attendees at a wedding and all the secrets they are keeping.
Born of Gilded Mountains is Amanda Dykes’ latest, and I just love all of her books.
Never Too Late is one of three Danielle Steel books I picked up.
How was your week?

I dislike paperwork! What is the difference between a tourist passport and a regular passport? Look like some good reads coming up for you.
A tourist passport is a regular passport. Just a different way of saying it. When my husband was in the military we had our tourist passports and our official government passports. Yes I have too many books as usual and they all look good!
Thanks! Enjoy your reads.
I had an issue with Barnes & Noble the past week too! I thought it was because it was too long, so then I shortened it. It still didn’t work, so I just retyped up a very basic review to post and then it seemed to be accepted. I never understand why some reviews can be the exact same format, type of content, and then all of a sudden it isn’t okay. So frustrating. Good luck with all the passport stuff!
Thanks! At least I won’t have to worry about a passport for another ten years.
Good luck with your paperwork, Bonnie. Yes always a hassle.
I need to get those taxes done then I’ll have a break with paperwork for a while.
I had a warning from Amazon as well recently. I got rid my mention of NetGalley and the publisher and it was accepted. It’s so annoying!
The problem is they didn’t say which post it was, so I have no idea. I do mention the publisher and Netgalley in my reviews, and it hasn’t been a problem, but I will stop doing it.
I can’t believe any review of yours could be outside anyone’s guidelines, Bonnie. It may take a lot of time for you to find out what the problem was.
I just hope they don’t ban me before I figure it out!
So, the Mighty Zon has informed you that one of your reviews goes against their community guidelines, but they won’t say which guideline and which review. So, how do they expect you to comply with their guidelines? Cognitive dissonance strikes again!
Exactly! What can I do?
Have you submitted a help request to try to get hold of a human?
I sent an email. We’ll see if I get a reply.
Fingers crossed!
I got a reply back from them saying that in order to help me, they need to know the specific review I’m talking about. I had just told them they didn’t give me a specific review in the email. I’m sure I’m talking to bots that are not going to be able to help me.
Unreal . . . It’s Monty Python time.
So what was at the post office – photos? I really enjoyed the first Bruce Borgos book so I got that one also.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
You actually have to go to the post office to have them submit your passport application if it’s your first one or if you last had one issued over 15 years ago. Our passports were too old to renew by mail so we had to go to the Post Office.
Is it funny how you can try to prepare s omuch and still have to scramble?
Yep! Happens to me every time!
I hope you get all those documents in place to travel. I reviewed three picture books in one day and they were all pulled due to “guidelines” no other explanation. I called and emailed and kept getting a run around. The next day, all my reviews were deleted and I can no longer post reviews to Amazon. I have never been able to find out why and they stopped responding to my emails. I hope you have a wonderful week.
Oh no. That’s what I’m afraid of
I hope it doesn’t happen to you, Bonnie.
And they never told you why?
No, they did not.
Ugh. I hate when websites give you warnings but don’t tell you what it is you did. I’ve had my Facebook account on suspension for who knows what and it was a pain the royal patootie to fix. I’m not on FB anymore because I was so mad, lol.
It’s what happens when these large companies put bots in charge, I think.
If you mention that you got a book for free, from NetGalley, or from the publisher- Amazon does not like that. But you have to say it on IG for compliance. It can be so complicated.
Glad you got a nice person at the Post Office! We had to renew ours last year but luckily we were able to do it from home.
I guess they’ve changed that because I’ve been doing that for years. I can stop doing that, but if they go back to my many old reviews, it’s there.
That’s weird. I know they don’t approve mine with it and I’ve heard many people with the same experience. 🤷🏻♀️
Do you not say you got it free at all or do you say you got it free but not from where?
I just don’t even mention that for the Amazon review. Only for my IG post. And then on here, sometimes I remember and sometimes I don’t. Amazon just won’t take my review if I mention that it was free and they don’t require it for the Vine stuff either, which they send me for free. Of course, it doesn’t say verified purchase either.
I’d love to get on Vine. I’ll start leaving the whole free book thing off the Amazon reviews
Leave it to those websites to be visage in telling you what guidelines you broke. Pinterest does that to me too.
Have a great week.
