Sunday Post: Holiday Fun #MerryChristmas #HappyHolidays

Thanks to Caffeinated Reviewer for hosting Sunday Post.

Well, little to no posting last week. I was working, and then in my free time I was finishing up reviews for Historical Novels Review, the magazine of the Historical Novel Society. I cannot post those until February 1st.  I also had a stomach thing for a couple of days, and then thankfully when I was feeling better the grandkids arrived Saturday. They have gone home now, but we had some Christmas fun with stockings and gifts.

The holidays are upon us! I hope your preparations are fun, and not stressful! I have a lot of presents to wrap for Doug, and I’m making ham for Christmas dinner with German Potato Salad and Baked Beans. Probably rye rolls. I haven’t decided on dessert. Anyone have a favorite dessert they always make? I made my chocolate peanut butter fudge today. I used to make it every year for my Dad until he passed. It is a recipe that his sister used to use. I found some more recipes of my Mom’s, so maybe I’ll make one of those for Christmas dinner.

Next week on the blog: I have many reviews to post: Here are covers of some of them:

BOOK HAUL

Here are the books I have recently received:

This coming week, besides book reviews and some spotlights, I will participate in Top Ten Tuesday and Book Blogger Hop if time permits.

What are your plans leading up to the holidays?

  1. Chocolate cheese swirl pie – my mom’s recipe (so it is very easy…we are good cooks but not bakers:) Merry Christmas to everyone!!!

    1. A person can never have too many family get-togethers, esp when accompanied with all kinds of wonderful stuff! Bully for you, T.W.!!!

  2. Oh your Christmas dinner sounds wonderful. We are having surf & turf. Which means grilled shrimp, steak, ham, potato, sweet potatoes, greens etc. Plus deviled eggs for my grandson. I have baking and wrapping to do. Glad you are feeling better!

    1. Cheers, Kimberly@CaffeinatedReviewer. I know you will be mightily prepared for all the holidays!

  3. My husband and I got our Christmas preparations finished early this year to prevent stress. He’s buying the food tomorrow, and he’s mapped out our traditional drive to see the Christmas lights. We just need to schedule our Zoom gift-opening with our daughter and son-in-law in San Diego. So that frees me up for a research trip to the University of Vermont next week.

  4. I am glad you spent an early Christmas with your grandchildren, Bonnie. I think traditions are the spark in Christmas.

We always make a Romanian dessert for Christmas, Cozonac. It’s a sweet bread made by plating three strands of dough in which you add Turkish delight, or finely chopped walnuts mixed with cocoa cream, or just cocoa cream. Baked. I have the recipe on my blog.
We also make a mix of traditional Romanian and South Africa dishes and always sing carols by Christmas Tree on Christmas Eve and (still) leave cookies and milk for Santa.

Bonnie, wishing you and yours a blessed Christmas and a brighter and happier New Year, filled with kiddies’ giggles and hugs, and good reads 🙂

    1. Turkish Delight — Cozonac! prosze — sign me up! mniam! mniam!

Wishing all your holiday wishes come true, Patricia and Bonnie and all of you!!!!!!!!

  5. All this talk of Christmas meals is giving me so much FOMO. My husband and I are Canadian immigrants and we don’t celebrate Christmas the western way, and it’s just us this year, so other than enjoying the snow and the lights, we’re not really doing anything at all for Christmas. I don’t feel up to making a Christmas meal just for the two of us, but your chocolate peanut butter fudge makes me want to make a dessert, maybe.

I hope you have a really, really delicious Christmas!

  6. Great looking books this week. I don’t know what we are having for dinner this year but I do know husband is making it (he always smokes the ham each year).
