I am giving away a hardback copy of Taken at Birth by Jane Blasio. This is the true story of a small town doctor in Georgia who would tell some of the pregnant mothers who came to his clinic that their babies had died or been aborted, and then sell them to parents who wanted to adopt. He did this for over 20 years. Jane Blasio is one of these babies. She began investigating and managed to find many of the other children affected. Through DNA tests, some of them found their birth parents and some are still looking for answers. This story of Jane’s quest for answers and the town that looked the other way has been on many major news networks.
In order to enter the giveaway, just comment below. I will be doing a random drawing on July 30th after 5 PM. I will post the review and giveaway on July 31st. This is a fascinating story, so be sure and enter the giveaway!
This does sound like a fascinating, albeit horrifying, story!

Thanks for entering the giveaway, Liz! This is both fascinating and horrifying. I saw a special about this, possibly on Investigation Discovery. The author has been working for years to reunite families.

I think I may have seen a TV special about the case, although it could have been a similar case.

I was first introduced to this story when I read Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. Such a sad situation all around.

Thanks for entering the giveaway, Wendy! This is a slightly different story. Before We Were Yours was about the Tennessee Chlldren’s Home and its operator, Georgia Tann, stealing children from poor families and selling them to the rich from the 1920s to about 1950. Taken At Birth is about the HIcks clinic in McCaysville, Georgia, and their doctor, who sold babies out of the back of his clinic from the 1940s to the 1960s, often telling the mother they had died. But it’s also a horrifying tale.

It’s truly alarming what some people will do for money.

What a nightmarish sort of Oliver Twist; I can’t imagine the pain and grief of parents in learning that they had been deceived and their babies stolen. I would be very intrigued to read this grim history.

Thanks for entering the giveaway! I can only imagine the anger I would feel towards that doctor and the town that protected him if I were in this situation.
