Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s topic is “Books With A High Page Count.” I often keep the books I choose to 325 pages or less, but there are some exceptions. Many of the books Jodi Taylor writes are close to 500 pages, and I’ve read them all, so I’ve listed a few here. Some of the Harry Potter books are over 500 pages. I can’t say I’ve finished War and Peace or The Count of Monte Cristo, but they are over 1000 pages. Mockingjay, Book 3 of The Hunger Games trilogy, is 400 pages. The Lord of the Rings was originally intended to be one book, which would make it well over 1000 pages! And of course, I need to end with The King James Bible, which the internet tells me can range from 1200 – 2500 pages, depending on the edition.

What about you? Can you think of books with a high page count that you’ve enjoyed?

Your doorstopper books inspires me, Bonnie. I’ll have to look at Jodi Taylor.
I have Jane Eyre, Thorn Birds and Outlander on mine, among other hefty historical fiction novels written by women writers 🙂
I didn’t realize Jane Eyre was that long. I read it in high school.
Yes, yes, me too 🙂 Maybe where days were longer then… 🙂
The Count of Monte Cristo also a door-stopper.
I didn’t realise that Jodi Taylor’s books were so long! 🤦♀
Because they’re so good!
Great list, Bonnie. I enjoyed Tolstoy’s War and Peace and Michener’s Hawaii.
One of these days I’ll finish War and Peace.
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo should be added to your list. I keep re-reading it every few years and each time it keeps improving for me.
I’ve never read it, although I know the story. Getting the time to read it is the problem.
I have read all the Harry Potter books. When I was about eight I thought I would start at the beginning and read the whole bible. I did not get far, but the King James Version is my favourite, I wish we still talked like that.
I love the King James for the Psalms especially and I use ESV and others for study.
Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series books are large books but I loved them. I read War and Peace eventually and was glad I did.
I keep saying I’m going to read War and Peace, and I even have it on my Kindle, but so far, it hasn’t happened.
I read it one chapter a day. It took me almost a year but I was glad I did it.
Good idea.
I’m just finishing A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, which is over 600 pages.
Another one I haven’t read. I get myself so committed with reading for other people, I don’t often have time to read the longer ones for myself.
Same here.
I thought Mockingjay wasn’t that long, but I only counted books with 500+ pages for this topic. So I didn’t even consider it.

I started at 400 pages and up.
A Harry Potter book almost made my list today. I had a couple of Nora Roberts books on my list today, which I enjoyed. Most of my reading is made up of books under 400 pages, as well, Bonnie. I keep saying I’m going to read the bible from cover to cover, but haven’t done it yet.
It’s easy to get stuck in Leviticus and some of the other chapters of the Bible that recite laws and lineage. I finally got through them.
I remember I thought Mockingjay should have been a little longer actually. I felt like the ending was very rushed.
Here’s my list: https://franlaniado.wordpress.com/2025/08/19/top-ten-tuesday-the-last-ten-doorstops-i-read/
I didn’t find the ending of the book rushed at all. The ending of the movie was affected by Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death.
Hey Bonnie, what a great list of books! I love The Lord of the Rings, The Count of Monte Cristo, the Holy Bible, and the Harry Potter series! 😍 You have also reminded me about Jodi Taylor’s The Chronicles of St Mary’s series – I read the first book years ago and not got round to reading more. 😅Blessings, Jessica 💌
Enjoy the rest of the St. Mary’s series, and don’t give up when the unthinkable happens!
Ooo now I am intrigued! 🤨😁
