They say if you play you’ve got to pay, so after my football vacation last week I was back to work, and catching up on reads in my spare time. I’m still not quite caught up with my books, but I’m making a dent in it.
For dinner the other day, my husband Doug made something called City Chicken. This is actually not chicken but breaded pork on a stick! It was very good. I had never had it before but he used to have it as a kid. Here’s what it looks like:

My side dish was not mashed potatoes, sadly, as I’m still watching the carbs. The weight loss has slowed a bit, but I’ve lost 26 pounds so far.
Doug and I are working on two more short stories for the folklore challenge. We should be finished in the next couple of days.
How about you? How was your week?

NEW BOOKS THIS WEEK
I picked up one new book. It is The Sisters of Sea View by Julie Klassen, one of my favorite Christian authors. Click on the cover to learn more about it.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
I was able to get back to my novel-in-progress this week, so I’ve a happy camper. ( At this point in time, my characters aren’t, unfortunately.)

There is also a saying; all work and no play…😉 I had a good week. The fall colours are in full bloom and I got some beautiful foliage photographs. 🍂 I’m reading Mistake in Time (Anna Faversham) and Brooms (Kevin Miller), and enjoying them both. 😊 Looking forward to reading your stories.

Good for you for doing the low-carb thing, Bonnie. And 26 pounds is great. Keep it up. My husband and I have been eating “keto” for about four years, and we love it. And nice that you have a husband who cooks! I wish. Lol. Thanks for the plug and Happy Reading!

Keto’s not sustainable for me, sadly. I can’t stay on it long term as I always give up. But when I was diagnosed as prediabetic my doctor told me to stay on 100 carbs or less a day. I also kept it to 1500 calories in order to control my portions. I can stay on that and I don’t have to worry about being in ketosis. So since May 31st I’ve lost 26 pounds. It is slow but steady and I don’t have to give up carbs completely.

I’m so glad you’ve been able to stick with it, Bonnie. That’s great. My guy was also prediabetic, and he was able to stop his medication when we went low carb, no suger. And slow and steady is healthy. Keep it up.

Congratulations on the 26 pounds! That’s wonderful. I went on a lower calorie diet earlier this year and I struggled a lot at first, but I’ve gotten used to the food and finding healthier alternatives with time! 😊

Weight loss is always a challenge and good for you sticking with it! – mine goes up and down 20 lbs every few years. I work hard and take it off, and a couple years later it’s back. I just can’t seem to stick to the strict regime necessary to keep it off. Ah well. It’s finally starting to be a pretty fall around here; the nights are cold enough that the leaves are finally turning. Hope you have a terrific week and find time to curl up with a good book.

Glad you got to make a dent!
That “chicken” looks yummy. I’m trying to watch what I eat. I have to say that walking my son to and from school is working wonders on the hip fat 😂
Have a great week ahead!

If anyone is interested in “City Chicken”, I remember it as “Chicken on a Stick” from when I was a kid growing up In Cincinnati. Apparently pork was cheaper than chicken at the time. You could buy “city chicken” at the grocer or butcher. As I remember it, it wasn’t cubed pork but more ground and shaped like a drumstick with a hefty skewer. I also don’t remember it being served with gravy. Anyway, here is the recipe I followed (I made it in both cubed and ground pork) https://www.agoudalife.com/city-chicken/

He retired a long time ago, and I still have to work another two years, so he does the cooking and cleaning, which is nice.

Hi! Congratulations on the weight loss! I’m on a weight loss journey, too, so I know how hard those plateaus can be. But keep on trucking!

It’s always hard to return to real life and the regular routine after some time away. Your dinner looks delish… but I really would have needed the mashed potatoes. 🙂

I had already “spent” the carbs elsewhere, so I had to make do with salad.
