As I posted last Sunday, we spent the whole week in Holden Beach. Besides walking on the beach, collecting shells, and lounging by the pool, we went antiquing and shopping at outlet malls. The highlight of our week was a three-hour boat tour on Tuesday. Since it was a “three-hour tour,” we all made lots of jokes about how we hoped our boat was not called “The Minnow!” The tour was wonderful and we saw the most beautiful sunset any of us had ever seen. And we’ve seen some sunsets in our time! Here’s a picture below taken by my cousin Chris during the tour that captures it all–an orange sky, a setting sun, and a pelican!

We also saw pods of dolphins! It was such a wonderful tour.

In my downtime, I finished up my reviews for the November edition of Historical Novels Review, the magazine of The Historical Novel Society. I’ll be able to post those after November 1st.

We arrived back home today (It is Saturday as I write this.) Work beckons on Monday. But we had a great time!

On Monday I reviewed Our Stolen Child by Melissa Wiesner as part of a blog tour for Bookouture.

On Friday I did a Spotlight as part of a book tour for Goodbye Orchid and Orchid Blooming by Carol Van Den Hende.

Also on Friday I debuted the new Indie Weekend (formerly Self-Published Saturday) with a review of an audiobook–Relatively Normal Secrets by C.W. Allen, along with a great Q&A with the author.

NEXT WEEK ON BONNIE READS AND WRITES

This Sunday, as part of Indie Weekend, I will review Your Words, Your Heart by Louise Belanger and Deuce by Gail Meath.

On Monday I will review The Safe Game by Wes Verde as part of a blog tour for R&R Book Tours.

On Tuesday I will participate in Top Ten Tuesday if time permits. I will also review Dreamland by Nicholas Sparks.

On Wednesday I will review Enola Holmes and the Elegant Escapade by Nancy Springer.

On Friday I will participate in Book Blogger Hop if time permits.

From Friday to Sunday is the new Indie weekend, where I post reviews and spotlights of Indie books.

BOOK HAUL THIS WEEK

I haven’t been requesting much because I have a lot on my Netgalley Shelf, but I received the following two books for upcoming blog tours:

    1. Thanks Wendy. I read the first book in the series, The Siren of Sussex, so I’m excited to read Belle. I was sent a widget on Netgalley, so I was surprised to get a print copy in the mail too! Maybe I can take some nice photos with it. I’m not the best at that.

  5. Your week at the beach sounds so fun!! I can’t wait to take my son to the ocean for the first time, to see all the dolphins, collect shells – all those things! And your comment about the three hour tour made me laugh – I would have thought the same thing!

  11. What a beautiful photo of the sunset! I love boat tours. I keep telling my husband we need to try a whale watching tour one of these days. I think it would be a fun family outing. Mimi Matthews’ book sounds good. So does My Husband’s Lover. I hope you have a great week and enjoy your reading!

  16. I’m glad your three-hour tour was much more successful than Gilligan’s, lol. That sunset picture is amazing. I love being out on the water during sunrise and sunset. My husband is a sailor so we often spend time on the boat in a local lake. It’s my happy place.

  19. Wow, what a fantastic Sunday Post! I especially loved hearing about your recent trip to Holden Beach and your boat tour that resulted in the most beautiful sunset you’ve ever seen. And those dolphins were just the cherry on top. Your mention of the new Indie Weekend (formerly Self-Published Saturday) is also great news for those of us who love discovering new indie books.

    I’ve also added two of the books you received for upcoming blog tours to my to-be-read list. The description of “As my girlfriends and I sip wine and share secrets in the flickering candlelight of our remote Scottish hideaway” has got me hooked already. And I’m definitely intrigued by the marriage of convenience in “London heiress rides out to the wilds of the English countryside.”
